Cactus Club – Butternut Squash Ravioli

I am not the biggest fan of chain places, I prefer more local places. However Cactus club is one that I often go to. Something about their butternut squash ravioli is to die for. But you also might die at the price. For 7 pieces you are looking at a $27!. Shrimp is often more expensive but that must for that little is a bit much. But if also comes with truffle oil and deep fried sage which is the cheery on top.

4th Spot – Chicken & Waffles Poutine

I tied 4th Spot for the first time, it is a favourite among people who live in the North. I always pass it on my commute to work as well. I saw the Chicken and waffles poutine on the menu and had to try it. I also ordered a pizza to go. I expected more for the food, it was not considered cheap either. The waffles were very dense and just gross. The chicken was okay but lacked seasoning. They did not position the fries in a good place either so it got very soggy fast. For anyone who has eaten New York Fries you know that they make a wall of fries around the container so your fries don’t get completely soggy by the gravy. Also the gravy used for this poutine was lighter than i would have wanted. Its not a rich dark gravy or even gravy that is like KFC. Finally I ate the pizza that night and i was not crazy about it either. I got a Hawaiian and the meat aspect just tasted slightly off to me.

Charbar – Rooftop Patio

On this day I visited the Char bar patio, the patio menu is different than the menu when you sit indoors. It is a lot smaller. I wanted to try the frozen lemonade but it was not ready to be drank. We came around 11AM. I got the pizza, the crust was very flat. It was not bad but I probably would not get it again. My family all got burgers. They enjoyed it. I had some of the potato wedges. The seasoning on them was good but I would have preferred them to be deep fried over baked for the extra crispiness. The view on the patio is the main selling point. The food is decent but nothing to rave about.  Click below for more pictures!

Brunch @ Alforno’s

Today I went to Brunch with my cousin. My go to place for brunch has always been EEB but wanted to eat something else than the usual today. I have has Alforno’s brunch before (the exact same thing as this picture). It is reasonably priced and tasted good. If I wanted to be picky I would point out the following. The toast was a little too burnt for my liking as it was a bit hard. The fruit preserve they gave tasted just like boiled strawberries with some sugar. Did not particularly like the texture of it either. Also the service at Alforno’s is always slow and not the most efficient but the decor is a cute place However I would come back again as I like the bacon they had and the desserts they have are always delicious.

Lot 102 – Patio Food

My family and I decided to try a new place in Kensington for a late lunch. Lot 102 serves a variety of foods. We got the Avocado toast and the tacos (chicken and fish). The place was not that busy for the time that we went (2PM), service was a little slow. Nothing stuck out as being overly unique. I did enjoy the strawberry lemonade (not photographed), it was freshly made and was only $3! My cousin enjoyed the avocado toast and said the salad was tasty as well. I had the tacos. I was expecting smaller tacos but was pleasantly surprised when they quite hardy. One complaint is that they were kinda soggy and mushy. Overall not a bad place, but not my first choice.
